The Wanfu Temple is located at the foot of the Huangbo (cork tree) Mountain in Fuzhou of Fujian province. It was built in De Chongchenyuan fifth year of Tang Dynasty (789 A.D).
The temple was later totally destroyed in 1966—1976. A great many famous high monks came forth from Wanfu in past dynasties, especially a Buddhist monk named Master Yinyuan. He went to Japan in Shunzi eleventh year (1645) and introduced many advanced cultures such as architectures, engravings, calligraphy, medicine and music to Japan.
He also developed Huangbo Zen in Japan and it was developed into eleven factions in 1867. There were 4,648 followers and became a big Buddhist sect in Japan. Thus, Wanfu Temple becomes the primogenitor of Huangbo Zen in Japan. Name:Fuzhou Wanfu Temple (Wanfu Si) City:Fuzhou Address: Admission:Free
