Kite-flying is a mass sports and entertainment activity which is popular in the world. As one of the countries with the longest history of kite, China has benefited from the important role that kite plays in the fields of war, sports, entertainment, art, science and technology in the past decade. Weifang is the hometown of kites, which had been popular with the folks as early as in Song Dynasty (960-1279A.D). Weifang kites have formed a unique style of wide themes, beautiful in shapes with delicate drawings. The long history and the success of Weifang International Kite Festival have made Weifang kites well-known and highly spoken all over the world.
Weifang Kite Museum is the largest kite museum in the world. The building covers an area of 8,100 square meters. Its shape resembles a famous local dragon-head centipede kite of Weifang. The ridge of the roof is composed of big ceramic dragon with its peacock-blue gaze glittering in the sunshine like a large dragon swimming in the sky. Its design and style is unique in China.
The museum collects and displays many peculiar kites and relevant cultural relics in the display area of 2,000 square meters. It introduces the kite festival and a survey of Weifang with about 1,000 peculiar kites and 300 pieces of culture kite materials, pictures, writings, paintings and replica. The exhibition demonstrates Weifang Kites�fine style and delicate craftsmanship, vivid shape, selective subjects and introduces foreign kits, wits and characteristics of inflated shape, boldness in conception, bright colors and smooth gliding. It also reflects historical facts of electing Weifang as "the World Kite Capital" in 1988 and founding "the International Federation" in 1989.
