Drepung Monastery is located 5 kilometers northwest of Lhasa. It was constructed in 1416 by Tibetan Buddhism, Gelug sect founder Zongheba disciple of deep red Yang Qujie. The temple occupies 25,000 square meters, with three mountains surrounding it. The building is a grand magnificent sight and has Tibetan nationality religion construction art and characteristic. The priest in the monastery amounted to over 7,700 people and is the Tibetan Buddhism biggest monastery. The monastery is extremely rich in historical relics, Buddhism classics and craft art work. Drepung Monastery is first constructed during the bright Yunglo 14 years. After Zhaibung Monastery was completed, Gelug Sect Monastery was developed and in strength as an abundant monastery. In 1464, Drepung Monastery established the Buddhist monastery and taught the Buddhism classics. There are seven grips in the monastery warehouse (called Buddhist monastery). Drepung Monastery Buddhist priest amounted to more than 7,000 people at its peak. Generation after generation, Dalai Lama take Drepung Monastery as the main mother monastery, therefore this monastery has the highest status in the Gelug sect monastery.
