Sajia Monastery is located within the boundaries of Sajia County, about 180 kilometers from Rikaze. Sa"gya. In the mid 13 centuries, it was the capital of Sajia Dynasty. It was the politic, economy, culture and military centre of Tibet. It was divided into the North and South monasteries. The palace is grand and the layout is compact and rich with Yuan Dynasty's constructions style. Sajia Monastery is famous because of its gray white soil. In Tibetan language, Sajia means 'gray soil
'The construction of Sajia Monastery was very unique and unusual. It was built in square shape, resembling a magic cube. The area occupied is 20,000 cubic meters and there are fence surrounding the building on all sides. The wall is very high, the height reaching almost 3 feet and there were watchtowers built on four corners. There is an artificial moat outside the wall. The outer wall was painted in red, black and white color. These colors are the special symbols of Sajia Fation temple.
There are massive murals and statues from the Yuan Dynasty preserved in the temple. It has the reputation of the second "Dunhuang" in China. Sajia Monastery is a well-known Tibet scripture and book collection center.
